What are ID Cards used for?
ID cards, or identification cards, are used for a variety of purposes, including:
- Proof of identity: ID cards are commonly used to verify a person’s identity, especially when dealing with government agencies, financial institutions, or businesses that require personal identification.
- Access control: ID cards are used to control access to secure locations such as office buildings, laboratories, and military installations.
- Age verification: ID cards are used to verify age for buying alcohol, tobacco, and other age-restricted products.
- Driving privileges: Driver’s licenses or other ID cards issued serve as proof of a person’s driving privileges and allow them to operate a motor vehicle.
- Voting: In some countries, voters are required to present a government-issued ID card in order to cast their vote.
- Travel: ID cards such as passports or visas are used for international travel and serve as proof of citizenship and identity.
Overall, ID cards are an important means of identification and verification, serving to protect individual privacy and security while ensuring public safety and control.
How do you attach an ID card to your lanyard?
ID cards can be attached onto a lanyard in two main ways. We can either put the ID card in a ‘card holder’ which can either be rigid or soft. Or the card can be printed onto a micron card with a hole punch in it. Both of these options will allow the ID card to be attached to the clip found on each of our lanyards.
Below are some explanations on the different type of ID card holder available, all of which will clip onto the trigger or lobster clips found on all our lanyards.
Soft ‘vinyl’ ID card holders – These are clear plastic wallets with a slot in the top of them to allow attachment onto a lanyard. The ID card can be slotted into the wallet which will allow the card to be visible on both sides, whilst also protecting the card from wear and tear
Rigid ‘Open Faced’ Card Holders – These come in a variety of colours and can come in both portrait and landscape orientations as well as single and double sided. Single sided ID Card holders allow one card to be inserted into the holder, and then attached onto the lanyard. Whereas the double sided card holders allow 2 cards to be inserted. Keep in mind that these card holders only allow one side of the ID Card to be shown at one time.
Rigid ‘Enclosed’ ID Card Holders – These ID holders come in both portrait and landscape and allow the ID Card to be inserted into it and attached to a lanyard. It allows visibility of both sides of the card and is a very secure holder to protect the card from damage.
ID Card Badge Gripper – These black clips attach onto the top of a micron card, which then allows it to be fastened to a lanyard. Whilst it allows visibility of both sides of the card, it does not protect it from any damage. It does however allow simple changing over of ID Cards without much fuss.
While all of the above items allow ID cards to be attached onto our wide variety of lanyards. They can also be attached onto various other clips we have, including leather luggage straps, crocodile ID Clips alongside Badge Reel Yoyo’s. These different items allow attachment onto clothing in a slightly different way than a lanyard. They can be attached directly to clothing or belt loops.
What are badge reels and how do they work?
Badge reel lanyards or badge reel yoyo’s are small retractable devices, either by themselves (yoyo’s) or on the end of lanyards (reel lanyards) that are used to hold and display ID Cards. It consists of a plastic or metal case that contains a retractable cord or string, often made of nylon or steel, that can extend up to several feet in length.
The badge reel yoyo is typically attached to a person’s clothing or lanyard, and the ID card or badge is clipped onto the end of the retractable cord. When the card or badge needs to be used, it can be easily pulled out to the desired length, and when it’s no longer needed, it can be retracted back into the case.
Badge reel yoyos are commonly used in a variety of settings, including offices, hospitals, schools, and events, where it’s important to keep ID cards visible and easily accessible while also keeping them secure.
